Our Background
Serve Women and Children Empowerment and Development Agenda (SWACEDA)was established first in Kenya in 2013 and then in Somalia in 2015. SWACEDA was set up to support Pastoral women and Children in Mandera cross-border triangle to strengthen the political, economic, social and environmental resilience of the women in these regions. The regions are afflicted by drought, conflict, insecurity, low/lack of education, general poor health conditions and women carry the brunt of the society. SWACEDA’s intention in all its programmes is to realise gender equality and women’s empowerment and in particular to end violence against women and girls especially working towards ending Female Genital Mutilation. Programs are as below.
Enviroment
In addressing environment SWACEDA recognises that it is important to secure the women’s livelihoods and this depends on adjusting to climate change in the regions.
G.B.V
As these are pastoral communities a lot of emphasis is attached to social norms. It is in these communities’ social grace to subject women and girls to practices that amount to gender-based violence,
Womens Rights
Since SWACEDA is a women’s organisation it is imperative that it addresses women’s and girl’s rights in political, social, economic spheres.
Peace & Conflict
While overall security and peace in these regions are always shaky because of the usual border pragmatics, the situation is further exacerbated by constant conflict on grazing and water sources
